The Sailors’s Sentinel
Missing Boy Appears to have been Brutally Murdered, Father is
Nowhere to be Found
A gust of tension has recently blown into the town of St.
Petersburg Missouri as Huckleberry Finn, who had been abducted by his abusive
father earlier this year, is suspected to have been killed and dragged from the
log cabin where he and his father were living in. Authorities are now searching
for the main suspect, the father, who has disappeared after these events. When
searching the cabin again for clues, the authorities have found an interesting
paper written by Huck Finn himself, prompting them to wonder if Huck was really killed after
all.

“When in the course of human events” (Declaration of Independence),
it becomes necess’ry for a person to get rid of the political and domestic
bonds that have joined him with another group of people, and to regain all the
powers and rights that Ms. Watson’s God has entitled me to. Every man has some
rights that are not to be taken away, like life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness-and when any form of leadership starts limiting these rights I must
try to change their ways of rulin’ or take matters into my own hands completely.
I have patiently endured a long line of abuses, injuries and other sufferable
evils from these people who try to have absolute tyranny over me to the point
where I reckon it’s time for me to throw off such a controlling government and
create my own freedom. Here’s the facts:
Pap tried to steal all my money me and Tom Sawyer that we had found
from the robbers and would’ve prob’ly drank it away if I hadn’t given it to
Judge Thatcher
Pap tried to stop me from going to school-although to be
honest I just continued to go to spite him
Pap catched me and held me prisoner in the woods where he came
home drunk ev’ry night and just about killed me when he was halucinatin’ from
the whiskey
The other countless times where Pap has whaled me when he
was sober or drunk
The Widow Douglas tried to “sivilize me”(Twain 11); she made
me dress up in these fancy clothes and eat with silverware and wouldn’t even
let me smoke, even though she uses snuff
Ms. Watson tried to force her religion on me. She made me sit
through dull hours learnin’ ‘bout the Bible and even made me pray in the closet
(I still ain’t found those fishhooks yet) and then made me listen on how I was
gonna go to the bad place-although it doesn’t sound so bad if Tom Sawyer’s
gonna be there with me
For all these reasons and more I do declare that I have no
more ties to Pap, the Widow, Ms. Watson or any other person in society. I’m
free to make my own choices and to go where I please. -Huckleberry Finn
Authorities will continue to investigate the disappearance of Huck Finn with the hopes resolving this mystery. If you have any information regarding either Huck or his father please contact the authorities immediately.

Wow, I really loved how you cleverly tied together the Declaration of Independence and Huck Finn. Since Huck throughout the first part of the novel is trying to figure out what he believes about civilized society and his moral consciousness, do you think Huck would associate these same rights he is claiming to have through the Declaration of Independence to Jim? Huck seems to want to be separated from anything that is mainstream in civilized society and the idea that slaves should not be given rights is definitely tied to society's beliefs, but it is also what he was taught growing up.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading this twist of events. It's really well written and feels right out of the book. I also like how you related the declaration of the independence to Huck Finn. Absurd but awesome.
